Darren Leeds is an American Meteorologist working with Fox Illinois in Champaign, Illinois where he serves the station as an Evening Meteorologist. He has been working with the station since February 2022.

Leeds works with Fox Illinois where he serves the station as an Evening Meteorologist. Prior to Fox Illinois, he was working with KRCR-TV where he was serving the station as a weekend meteorologist and weekday multi-media journalist. However, Daren is no stranger to Central Illinois. He is a proud graduate of Eastern Illinois University where he obtained a degree in Geography and minors in Broadcast Meteorology, Communications, and Environmental Science.

Leeds was raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, so it goes without saying that he is a die-hard fan of the Bears, Blackhawks, White Sox, and Bulls. In his time working in Northern California, he covered some of the largest wildfires in the state’s history. Asides from this, he extensively tracked the Dixie Fire which burned more than 1,500 square miles and destroyed several communities.

He states that California offered a wide variety of weather to forecast, from 100+ temperatures in the valley to winter storms in the mountains. Leeds learned a lot during his time on the west coast. After his graduation from EIU, he started his weather broadcasting career in the year 2011 in the Black Hills of South Dakota. This is where he met his wife, Shauna.

Among his most memorable weather event in South Dakota was Winter Storm Atlas in the year 2013 which dumped 3 feet of snow in Rapid City, SD. He states that he is happy to be back in his home state where his parents can enjoy the full grandparent experience. Away from work, he enjoys golfing, hiking, exploring the area with his family, kayaking, and playing lacrosse.
