David Carroll is an American anchor and reporter working at WRCB where he has been serving as a weekday news anchor. He joined the WRCB Channel 3 Eyewitness News in 1987.

David Carroll Career

Carroll is the longest-running news anchorman in Chattanooga’s history. Not long ago, he received the 2020 Edward R. Murrow Award for hard news reporting, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Freedoms Foundation of Chattanooga, the Alabama Press Association awarded him the Best Human Interest Column of 2021, Best Humorous Column of 2020 and 2021, Tennessee School Bell Award for outstanding coverage of education, Chattanooga’s Best Columnist/Reporter in 2016, 2019, and 2021, Best Chattanoogan in 2018, and 2019, and the Beacon Award from the Georgia School Boards Association. In addition, he has broadcasted consecutively in Chattanooga for years. 

Furthermore, he is the author of; Chattanooga Radio and Television which is a history of broadcasting in the Scenic City, Volunteer Bama Dawg which is a collection of his humorous newspaper columns, and Hello Chattanooga which lists famous; political figures, entertainers athletes since 1900 in Chattanooga. Since he published his books, he has addressed many civic groups, churches, and local clubs. In addition, his weekly newspaper columns are seen in 50 newspapers in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. David’s new book is entitled Hello Chattanooga! Famous People Who Visited the Tennessee Valley.

Prior to embarking on his television news career, he was among Chattanooga’s top radio announcers from the legendary WFLI and later to hosting morning shows on KZ-106 and WOW. He has served as the host of a show called The Vinyl Express since 2016, on big1069.com and Chattanooga’s Big 106.9 FM. The show airs on weekends from 12 pm to 2 pm ET.

David recalls helping his sister pick cotton at his grandparent’s farm when he was about five years old. He knew he didn’t want to be a laborer when he grew up at that point. David was a voracious reader, thanks to his two older sisters and his mother, who taught him to read at a young age. He also enjoyed radio and television.
