David Lyden Biography
David Lyden is an American Reporter/Anchor working with Doppler 9 & 10 news teams where he serves the station as a Noon and Evening Anchor for the 5 and 7 PM News on Local 32. He has been working with Northern Michigan’s News Leader here he joined the station as an intern in May 2014.

Lyden works with Doppler 9 & 10 news where he serves the station as an Evening Anchor/Reporter. He worked with Northern Michigan’s News Leader as an intern between May 2014 and May 2015. From there, he joined the station full-time after his graduation from Central Michigan University where he obtained a degree in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts. Prior to joining the station, he attended Fairview High School where he graduated in the month of May 2011.
He was born and raised in Northern Michigan in the small town of Fairview in Oscoda County. While he was attending CMU, he anchored for the school’s award-winning news station, News Central 34. Asides from this, he has also called CMU Women’s basketball, CMU Softball on the school’s radio station Moore Rock Radio 91.5, and CMU baseball.
During his time working with Doppler 9 & 10, he has been recognized as one of the top reporters in the state by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Michigan Associated Press. Asides from this, he was also honored by the Michigan AP for his coverage of the Baby Kate trial in Ludington in October 2016.
His investigative reports have been privileged to garner awards from across the state. The MAB honored his in 2019 for his investigation into financial double-dipping allegations at a northern Michigan school district. Additionally, the MAB and Michigan AP again honored David for his investigative work in 2019 for his report “Betrayal of Trust.”
His investigation found that the former priest credibly accused of misconduct with a minor and permanently removed from the ministry was allowed to have a volunteer role around minors at a northern Michigan parish after his removal from the priesthood. He has also helped lead the station’s coverage of the 2016 and 2020 Presidential Elections, which include a pair of interviews with Vice President Mike Pence during his visits to Traverse City.
Lyden also traveled to Madisonville, Kentucky in order to cover the Great American Eclipse in the month of August 2017. Asides from that, he also hosts a podcast devoted to unsolved crimes and mysteries in northern Michigan. Away from work, he enjoys cooking, cheering on his favorite sports teams (Go Tigers and Fire Up Chips), traveling, a good bonfire, discovering all the incredible sites, restaurants, and breweries Northern Michigan has to offer, and reading.
