David Payne is an American Emmy Award-winning meteorologist working for News 9 serving as a Chief Meteorologist. He joined the network in January 2013, as the station’s 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. meteorologist.

Payne works for News 9 serving as a Chief Meteorologist at the network’s 4, 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts that air on weekdays. This interactive and exciting show teaches weather safety to kids. Being a father himself, children’s weather safety is very important to David.
During the devastating tornadoes of May 3rd, 1999, viewers around the world glimpsed heart-stopping images of David reporting live in front of that mammoth tornado. He was also recognized for helping to protect Oklahomans and for his severe weather coverage by then Governor Frank Keating. Later on May 8th, 2003, he was accorded an Emmy Award for his Moore tornado coverage along with two Emmy nominations. Within five years the storm was the second to hit the Moore community in a freakish sequence and roughly followed the same path as the 1999 storm.
In 2003, he was selected to speak at the National Association of Broadcasters conference held at the Reagan Center in Washington D.C. on Serving Communities in Crisis. There he shared his expertise on Oklahoma severe weather and storm tracking coverage. Payne is routinely sought out as an expert on weather by national television programs, magazines, and newspapers. Severally, he is seen serving on CNN, FOX, NBC, The Discovery Channel, and The Weather Channel among others. Payne holds the seal of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. His hobbies include gardening, fishing, bird watching, water skiing, and golfing.
