Diane Ako Biography
Diane Ako is an American anchor and reporter working for KITV4 weekend evening anchor and weekday reporter. She also serves as the host of the Aging Well series that airs every Tuesday evening at 5, 6, and 10 p.m. She joined KITV4 in March 2018, after previously working at KHON2 News as a morning anchor.
Ako attended The Kamehameha School where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in communications and also a Master in Political Science from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Most of Diane’s adult life has been in a television newsroom and not long ago, she worked in Pennsylvania, California, and New Mexico. For her reporting, she has earned four Emmy nominations from the San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and ten first-place awards from the Society of Professional Journalists Hawaii Chapter.
In addition, she enjoys informing, inspiring, and connecting with people. Furthermore, Diane is a board member of the Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival, which is one of the nation’s longest-running LGBTQ film festivals. Diane is also a citizen scientist with a marine biology group studying an endemic known as opae ula shrimp which is a Shinto shrine maiden for the Daijingyu Temple of Hawaii.
