Maleko McDonnell Biography
Maleko McDonnell is an American anchor, podcast interviewer, and radio host working for KITV4 as a weekday morning anchor of Good Morning Hawaii which airs from 4:30 am to 7 am. He joined KITV4 in January 2016, after previously working at iHeartMedia as a radio announcer on Star 101.9-FM.
Kailua is his native home and he attended St. Louis School where he graduated with a diploma. Later on, he joined Northwest Missouri State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in mass communications and journalism. He worked in radio at iHeartMedia for 20 years before he joined KITV’s news tea.
While he served as a radio announcer on Star 101.9-FM, in 2006, he won the Honolulu Star-Bulletin’s People’s Choice Award for Best Radio Personality. In addition, he was the first radio announcer who broke into programming and provided non-stop coverage following the resulting island-wide power outage in 2006 and an early morning earthquake
In 2008, when Oahu’s power grid failed again, he was on-air providing radio coverage throughout the event from the start to the end. He also led a campaign to bring televised concert performances to fans while at home through Living Room Live — #AlohaTogether in March 2020, when efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 forced venues and musicians to cancel events and concerts. Furthermore, the show has been used as a benefit for COVID-19 relief, as it raised money to buy Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for first responders and Hawaii’s healthcare workers.
He is also a well-known social media influencer, and he brings his considerable marketing expertise to the table for clients both locally and worldwide. McDonnell served as the host of a weekly podcast on the iHeartRadio network, where he interviewed musical guests, experts, and local business leaders.
In addition, Maleko makes regular appearances at local events as the master of ceremonies. He also works with the Honolulu Marathon Association as its race announcer and voice in addition to being the co-owner and co-producer of the internationally famous, Le Dîner en Blanc – Honolulu, in its 6th year in 2019. McDonnell is a multi-awarded Po’okela Award winner and not long ago, he appeared in Manoa Valley Theatre’s critically acclaimed production of Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding and Shipment Day.
