Dillon Thomas Biography
Dillon Thomas is an American Emmy-Award-Winning Reporter/MSJ/Anchor working for CBS4 News/KCNC-TV in Denver, Colorado where she serves the station as a General Assignment Reporter/Fill-in Anchor. He has been working with the station since October 2016.

He began his journalism career at Smoky Hill High School. This was prior to joining Colorado State University in Fort Collins where he shadowed CBS4 anchor Jim Benemann. During that time, he decided broadcast news was for him. He also interned at CBS4 in college and later graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Technical Communications. The year 2022 saw him receive the Emmy Award for Video Journalist, an award that recognizes the best solo journalist who shoots, edits, and writes their own stories. Asides from this, he also received the 2022 Emmy for best News Special after creating the documentary “SCARRED: Lessons from Cameron Peak.”
Dillon interned at CBS4 in college and later graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and technical communications, with a minor in political science. After college, Dillon worked in Fayetteville, Arkansas for two years. He reported several weeknights and anchored the weekend evening newscasts.
Dillon made a return to Denver in order to join the CBS4 team in the month of October 2016. He states that while enjoying covering Northern Colorado News, he also enjoyed establishing a strong relationship with CBS4’s community partners. Thomas is also CBS4’s performing arts reporter covering the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Asides from this, he’s also served as the station’s representative at Cheyenne Frontier Days since the year 2019.

The year 2021 saw him envision, write, shoot, edit, and host the now Emmy-Award-Winning documentary “SCARRED: Lessons from the Cameron Peak Fire.” This 30-minute show took a deep dive into Colorado’s largest wildfire on record, and how its lasting impacts will outlive the fire itself for decades to come.
The year 2019 saw him receive his first nod from the Heartland Emmy Chapter for his coverage of convicted murders in Colorado using virtual reality to experience the outside modern world. The year 2021 saw him receive an Emmy nomination in the category of “Video Journalist,” recognizing his coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic as an MSJ.
He states that the reason he is a journalist is that the career allows him to meet so many people and see many places while not being confined to a cubical. His role models have always been his parents and state that he is proud to be living his dream job, reporting for CBS4 Denver, or being a dateline correspondent. Dillon states that he would never attempt is being a reptile handler because he is not fond of snakes. He states that one word that best describes CBS4 News is dedicated.
Away from work, he can be found watching the NBA, scanning through social media, supporting the arts at the DCPA, reading, playing basketball, and visiting with family and friends. He also has a great passion for exploring RMNP, long walks, and traveling and is well along on a mission to see the Denver Nuggets play in every NBA arena.
His favorite food happened to his grandma’s green chili, banana pudding, or his mom’s baked beans. On the other hand, his favorite sports team is Denver Nuggets. Thomas’ hidden talent is that he is a tasteful sarcasm. He enjoys spending his free time supporting the arts at the DCPA, and long walks.
Dillon states that his least favorite household chore is cleaning the shower and his favorite word/s are “Yay!” or “Huh!” His favorite noise is genuine laughter and his least favorite noise is loud chewing/swallowing. He states that he loves all kinds of music, but mostly gospel, country music, Rock, classics, and rap. Thomas states that what keeps him in Colorado is his family. He states that the biggest risk he has taken is following blind intuition and moving to Arkansas for a job without visiting before.
