Don Jorgensen Biography
Don Jorgensen is an American Broadcaster/Reporter/Anchor working with KELOLAND-TV where he serves the station as a Broadcaster since the year 1990. He was selected as South Dakota’s Broadcaster of the Year in the year 2010 by the South Dakota Broadcaster’s Association.

He graduated from high school in 1982 and from Dakota Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications in 1986. He also played football and basketball for four years at DWU.

Jorgensen works with KELOLAND News where he serves the station as a Broadcaster. He says that he felt honored to be named South Dakota Broadcaster of the Year in the year 2010. Jorgensen was also awarded the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for the coverage of the very first Honor Flight which brought World War II Veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials.
He says working with the night shift had its own fair deal of challenges and does not offer a lot of fantastic opportunities to report on some of the area’s biggest stories. The year 2004 saw the ten o’clock newscast and also won a regional Emmy from the National Television Academy for its coverage of Tornado Tuesday, and the night 67 twisters dropped from the skies over KELOLAND. Additionally, the staff also won a regional Emmy for the live broadcast of the demolition of the old Zip Feed building in downtown Sioux Falls.
He is a news veteran having joined the station in April 1990. He spent his first five years at the station anchoring Good Morning KELOLAND and also helped launch After Nine. This is in addition to taking over the duties of anchoring Midday in KELOLAND. Before starting his television career, he was working on the radio where he would broadcast afternoon newscasts on 1140 KSOO AM radio in Sioux Falls.
The year 1988 saw him being hired as an assistant news director and also covered big stories such as President George Bush’s inauguration in Washington D.C. and the Sioux City plane crash. Prior to joining KSOO, he was living in pheasant country, Winner, SD where there are more birds than people. Additionally, he was a news and farm director for KWYR AM Country 1260 and its sister station, FM Magic 93.
Away from work, loves spending his free time with his family, playing softball, and riding a motorcycle. He happens to be one of the hosts of the Children’s Miracle Network broadcast. This is a nonprofit raising money to help children with life-threatening illnesses. Jorgensen retired from the South Dakota Air National Guard after 22 years of service.
