Ellen Galles is an American journalist who serves as a news reporter at KSTP-5 Eyewitness News in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Galles has also worked in television markets in Traverse City Michigan and Memphis, Tennessee.

Galles attended Loyola University of Chicago from 1994 to 1998. She graduated from Loyola with a double major in communication and political science. Galles said she had limited understanding of journalism in high school, even though she worked on the newspaper staff. It wasn’t until her internships in college that she was able to immerse herself in opportunities to practice her craft.
Galles interned at several stations during her time at Loyola, including NBC 5, CBS 2, and CBS’s “48 Hours.” Galles credits many of her opportunities to her mentors and professors at Loyola, namely Connie Fletcher, Ph.D., and Studio Manager Jim Collins.

Galles began her broadcasting career in September 1998 in Traverse City, Michigan working at NBC 7 & 4. She then joined ABC 24 (WPTY) in October 1999 in Memphis, Tennessee as both a general assignment and consumer reporter. After working there for 4 years, she moved to KMSP (FOX Television) in Minneapolis in June 2003 as a television reporter. After over six years at FOX 9, she moved to KSTP-5 Eyewitness News in May 2012 as a news reporter.
During her five years at ABC 5, Galles said the Twin Cities have become her home. “It’s meaningful to cover events that affect me, my family, my kids, and neighbors,” she said. “I feel invested in the market and in the area. In this job, you move around, but I’ve been here for a while and it’s become home.”
One of the hardest aspects of her job is having to interview people in “tragic circumstances,” Galles said. The challenge lies in finding a balance of sympathy and compassion, but also maintaining a professional distance.
In her years of broadcasting career, she has had Emmy-award-winning coverage and has also appeared on national network television a number of times including CNN and FOX News channel. She covered the Pope’s funeral in Rome, Italy for two weeks as part of a special bureau composed of FOX’s biggest affiliates. She has said that marks her most memorable experience over the years.
