McKinney attended the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. She then joined Mississippi State University, earning a Master’s degree in Geosciences emphasizing Broadcast Meteorology.
During her time at Mississippi State University, McKinney used most of her free time to chase storms in Dixie Alle. She also served as a member of the 3-year winning forecasting competition team at State. This experience helped her develop the skills necessary to what she does now everyday.

She has always wanted to venture into meteorology since she was young even though there was no specific occasion to steer her toward pursuing weather.
McKinney has worked for WNKY in Bowling Green, WYMT in Hazard, and WVLT in Knoxville during her career. Previously, she worked at WTRF in Wheeling as a morning meteorologist for four years. A Bluegrass native, she is happy to be back home.
