Cunningham works for WSPA as a weekday morning and noon anchor. He joined the morning team in February 2002. Since joining the station, he has broadcasted stories including consumer stories, the region’s occasional volatile weather, and feature reports displaying his special sense of humor.
Before joining WSPA’s anchor desk, he served the station as the weekend sports anchor for 15 years. In this role, he broadcasted NASCAR racing, the Carolina Panthers, Clemson University, and University of South Carolina athletics, three Super Bowls, the Masters and Heritage golf tournaments, and the ascent of the Atlanta Braves into one of baseball’s most triumphant franchises.
During his career, Cunningham has received several awards including two Associated Press Best Sportscast awards in South Carolina. Aside from his role in the news, he has worked as a host of the Miss South Carolina Pageant and is the play-by-play voice of Clemson University football TV replays witnessed all over the southeast and high school football in the Upstate.
Cunningham also appeared in Talladega Nights opposite Will Ferrell where he portrayed a sports reporter. He relocated to South Carolina in 1984 and served WOLO in Columbia as a sports reporter until April 1987. Further, he broadcasted news and sports and hosted call-in talk programs for WIFE-AM and WBWB-FM in Indiana from 1980 to 1982.
