Glenda Lewis is an American Emmy Award-winning anchor and reporter working for WXYZ. She joined WXYZ-TV on September 1, 2003.
Glenda Lewis Career
Lewis serves as the co-anchor of 7 Action News at 5 p.m. on Channel 7 and 7 Action News at 10 pm on TV20 Detroit. She went to Michigan State University where she attained her B.A. in Advertising and Marketing. Lewis then joined Specs Howard School of Broadcasting and studied broadcasting. She joined the station serving as the co-anchor of Action News Sunday at 6 and 11 pm as well as a general assignment reporter. Lewis started her journalism career at WBKB-TV in Alpena where she served as a reporter/photographer.
Lewis left the station and joined WLNS-TV in Lansing where she served as a reporter/anchor. After working for WLNS-TV for several years, she moved on to working for WJRT-TV in Flint where she served as the co-anchor of ABC 12 News at 6 and 11 pm. She worked for WJRT-TV for about five years and later on joined WXYZ-TV /Channel 7.
Ever since she started her journalism career, she has managed to win several awards including 5 Emmy Awards one of them being for “Best Anchor”. In addition to this, she was also honored by the Michigan Chronicle in 2012 as a “woman of Excellence”. Furthermore, Glenda and her mother are the 1st Mother and Daughter in the country to have been co-anchors and hence are in the Museum of Radio and television history in New York City. She was also honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award alongside sports reporter Jemele Hill.
Lewis is also very active when it comes to community service and helping out in some of the community activities and events. For instance, she participates in Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Black United Fund, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, MOTTEP Minority Organ, and the NAACP.
