She grew up in Jenks, Oklahoma, until the age of 10, when she moved abroad with her family for 5 years. During that time, her parents worked as missionaries abroad. In this capacity, she has lived in France and New Caledonia in the South Pacific. Also, she studied at a boarding school in Malaysia. Moreover, she has been to multiple countries and speaks French and some Spanish. After returning to the United States, her family relocated to Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Derek was the best little brother a girl could ever have. He lit up our lives with laughter and love, all while battling severe depression that, 8 years later, stole him from us…”
