James Starks Education
Starks joined Capital University in 2004 when he finished his high school education at St. Francis de Sales High School. In 2008, he graduated with a Bachelor Of Arts degree in Radio/Film and TV. There, he was on the football team from 2004 to 2007, captain, track, and field from 2005 to 2007, and on Students for the Advancement of African American Culture.
Starks served WBNS 10TV as a sports intern in 2007. In 2009, he joined Kent State University where he graduated with a Master Of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. While pursuing his Master’s degree, he served WKBN 27 as an intern.

Starks served KPRC Local 2 in Houston, Texas as a sports anchor and reporter from August 2014 to February 2016. Before that, he served USA Today as a correspondent. While there, he provided weekly NCAA football reports on The University of South Carolina and Clemson University for USAToday.com.
Before USA Today, he worked at WLTX News 19 as a Sports Anchor from August 2011 to August 2014. There, he anchored sportscasts and provided live reports on The University of South Carolina, Clemson University, and prep sports around 11 counties. For one year and nine months, he worked at Kent State University – TV2 News in two roles. First, as a Sports Anchor from September 2009 to May 2011, and second as a Sports Director from January 2011 to May 2011.
Starks served Sports Corner at TV2 as a producer from August 2010 to December 2010. Before that, he served Capital University as a radio color commentator. His journalism passion started at a young age watching ESPN’s Sports Center with Stuart Scott. As a sports anchor, he has covered events like NCAA bowl games, NBA playoffs, and the NFL Draft, etc. Aside from journalism, he was a Defensive Back for the Cincinnati Bengals from May 2008 to January 2009.
