Jay Grymes Biography
Jay Grymes is an American Meteorologist working for WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge serving as a chief meteorologist. He also serves as a climatologist at the LSU Ag Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Before joining WAFB-TV, Jay worked as a climatologist at Louisiana State University.

After graduating from high school, Jay attended Delaware University in 1974 where he graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in Climatology, Biology, and Physics Geography. He then furthered his studies at Louisiana State University where he attained a degree in Climatology, Hydrology, and Meteorology.

Grymes works as a chief meteorologist at WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He joined the station in August 1996 working as a meteorologist before later being promoted to chief meteorologist in May 2003. In addition to working at WAFB-TV, Jay also works for the LSU Ag Center where he serves as a climatologist since he held the position in June 2001.
Jay started his professional career in 1986 working as a climatologist at Louisiana State University. He served the station for more than sixteen years from August 1986 to May 2003. Over the years, Grymes has covered multiple weather news starting from hurricanes to ice storms to tornados. He has more than 30 years of experience as a climate and weather in both the operational arenas and academics.
Aside from working as a journalist, Grymes worked for the Louisiana Department of Justice where he served as a consultant. Besides this, he also worked for the Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. On top of this, Jay is also a member of various organizations such as the National Weather Association, Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), and EBR Mayor’s OHSEP. He is also the writer of the book called Louisiana Weather and Climate, by Jones & Bartlett Publishers.
