Jim Scott Biography
Jim Scott is an American anchor and reporter working for KGET-TV as an anchor and reporter on weekday evening newscasts and as the host and producer of Kern County: In-Depth covering local issues of interest. He joined KGET-TV in October 1996 and so far, he has worked at the station for more than 23 years.
He gained interest in broadcasting when he was a sophomore in high school in Casper, Wyoming. In 1975, he joined the University of Wyoming where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting in 1980. After he completed college, he secured a job at KASL-AM in Newcastle, Wyoming where he served as a news director and his first job as a television journalist was at KCWY TV in Casper.
In addition, while Scott was 15 years old, he secured a job on KATI AM where he served as a disc jockey working the graveyard shift on the weekends at the Top-40 rock-and-roll station. He still worked as a DJ through his high school and college years till he was chosen as a news director at the campus station at the University of Wyoming.
He served as the student news director at the campus station for his last two years at the University of Wyoming. Later in 1983, he relocated to Bakersfield where he took a job at KERO-TV as an anchor and reporter while he was at KERO-TV. Together with his wife, they relocated to San Diego in 1994, where he worked at KFMB TV as an anchor/reporter and at KUSI TV as a reporter and weekend anchor.
In addition, Jim secured a job at KGET TV in 1996, and he has resided in Bakersfield together with his family ever since. Furthermore, his favorite news beats are government affairs, agriculture, aerospace, and the environment. On a number of occasions, he has been called on to serve as a master of ceremonies at fundraising events for a number of non-profit organizations.
