Joe Torres is an American author, anchor, and reporter working at WABC-TV where he is the weekend evening co-anchor at 5, 6, and 11 pm. He joined WABC-TV in 1996, as a general assignment reporter.

Torres attended P.S. from 1988 until sixth grade and later on, he joined John Jay High School in Cross River where he graduated with a diploma. Joe continued his studies after high school at SUNY Brockport, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications.

Most notable was when he extensively covered Benedict XVI, Francis, and Pope John Paul II. Prior to John Paul II death, Joe followed the globe-trotting Pontiff on his trips to; the Holy Land, Mexico, and Cuba as he provided New Yorkers with local angles on worldly events.

Furthermore, he presents at the Vatican for the Pope’s Silver Anniversary and for his death as many people went to Rome to bid bye to the spiritual leader. In April 2005, he was at St. Peter’s Square when the white smoke from the Sistine Chapel told the world of the election of Pope Benedict XVI. In addition, after three years Joe provided in-depth coverage of Pope Benedict’s visit to New York. He returned to the Vatican and St. Peter’s Square where Pope Francis was being elected as the Pontiff from Latin America in March 2013.

Torres also serves as the Host of ‘Tiempo which is a 30-minute public affairs program that airs on Sunday morning at 11:30. He was awarded an Edward R. Murrow Award and a Peabody Award for his reports on the world-changing events on September 11th. In 2001, Torres earned an Emmy Award for his coverage of the Greenpoint Gas Tank Implosion. In 1987, Torres began his television career at NBC in New York where he served as an NBC Page.

Later on, he was able to secure a job at WSAV-TV in Savannah, Georgia where he served as a reporter while he was there, he served as a general assignment reporter and beat reporter covering county government. He then relocated to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania where he worked at WNEP-TV as a weekend anchor, general assignment reporter, and consumer reporter. He worked at Disney/ABC-owned WPVI-TV in Philadelphia from 1992, as the Jersey Shore correspondent.
