John Del Giorno Biography
John Del Giorno is an Emmy award-winning reporter working at Metro Networks and WABC-TV in New York City where he serves as an airborne reporter. He has been working at WABC-TV since 1995.
John was selected to lead WABC-TV’s and Metro Traffic’s News Copter 7 and ever since he has served as a studio announcer, producer with Metro, and airborne reporter. He specializes in live coverage of breaking news and he also serves as a camera operator. Over the years, he has been present at the scene of many news events in the region including the 1995 Long Island Wildfires, Egypt Air 990, TWA Flight 800, the Blackout of 2003, the search for JFK Jr, and flooding from Tropical Storm Floyd.
In addition, his recollections of September 11 were included by the country’s leading journalists in two books; Covering Catastrophe a 2002 Bonus Book, and Running Toward Danger 2002. John was awarded an Emmy Award in 2008 for best On-Camera Talent: Live Reporter thus making him the first helicopter reporter ever to be recognized in this category.
Giorno attended Ithaca College where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Television-Radio. He serves on the Board of Directors for the National ENG Helicopter Association which is a group devoted to safety awareness within the new helicopter industry nationwide. During his leisure time, he enjoys cruising above major sporting events nationwide and serving as a blimp camera operator.
