John Scalzi Biography
John Scalzi is an American meteorologist working for WWSB as a forecaster for Good Morning Suncoast on weekday mornings on ABC 7 Good Morning Suncoast and ABC 7 News at Noon. He joined the station in December 1995 and has served the station for over 2 decades.
John Scalzi Education
Scalzi finished his high school studies at Seminole High School. After graduating high school, he pursued his two biggest passions i.e. Meteorology and Theater. He studied Theater in the United States at the North Carolina School of the Arts and abroad at the Mountainview School of Theater in London.
Scalzi joined the City University of New York, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology. He then pursued his graduate degree at Florida State University. While pursuing his degree, he worked as a weekend meteorologist at WTXL in Tallahassee. He also taught Meteorology courses and did broad research on Doppler Radar.

The Tacoma native spent his developing years and teens in St. Petersburg. After college, he worked in theater and television including playing the role of magician in Captain Kangaroo.
Scalzi worked as a meteorological coordinator at WNYW’s Good Day New York. He later became the public affairs liaison for the National Weather Service in New York. At the same time, he taught weather classes at the City College of New York. While pursuing his graduate studies, he joined WTXL in Tallahassee as a weekend meteorologist.
Scalzi was thrilled to have the chance to return to Florida’s west coast and share his special talent for weather reporting while educating viewers at the same time. The American Meteorological Society granted him its Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal Of Approval.

Scalzi loves woodworking, performing magic, gourmet cooking, and “surfing” the internet.
