John Vause Biography

John Vause is an Australian anchor and correspondent working at CNN serving as a correspondent. He has been working at the network since joining in December 2000.

Vause serves as the co-anchor of ‘CNN Newsroom from 12-2 am ET on CNN in Atlanta. Since starting his career, he has traveled to more than 30 countries and has worked at CNN based in Beijing, Sydney, Canberra, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Jerusalem. He has also managed to enclose stories that hit the headlines all across the USA and beyond including natural disasters: bushfires, typhoons, Earthquakes in China and Haiti, as well as floods. He also interviewed former Pakistan PM, Benazir Bhutto.

Vause also anchored several stories including the Japan earthquake and tsunami, the U.S. government shutdown, the Arab Spring, and the death of Kim Jung Il. In 2014, he covered the Israel-Hezbollah war from both Jerusalem and Gaza. Prior to this, he served as a correspondent in Jerusalem at CNN and later on as a senior international correspondent based in Beijing. In 2006, he closed the front lines of the Israel-Hezbollah war and won an Edward R. Murrow award. He was also the last reporter in Gaza after the Israeli pullout in 2005. He was also in Israel when the Palestinian suicide bombers launched a concentrated campaign against Israel in 2002.

Vause also stayed in Iraq for several months at the start of the U.S.-led invasion. In addition to that, he also enclosed the 9/11 attacks in New York and later on went to Pakistan and Afghanistan to cover the fall of the Taliban. He also covered other high-profile cases and stories including Bill Clinton’s impeachment, Presidential inaugurations, mass shootings in U.S. schools, Democratic and Republican National Conventions, and the death of John F. Kennedy, Jr. Vause went to the University of Queensland where he attained his Bachelor of Arts degree in American history.
