Josh Cingranelli Biography
Josh Cingranelli is an American journalist who most recently served as a first alert meteorologist at NBC CT (WVIT) in West Hartford, Connecticut, United States. He took up a position as an emergency medical responder with the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
Cingranelli’s passion for forecasting began at an early age growing up in southeastern Connecticut. Since then, he has been passionate about severe weather and winter storms.
He has also served as a volunteer firefighter at the Yantic Volunteer Fire Department. He is the captain of the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department and is also a part-time emergency dispatcher in Killingly.
Josh Cingranelli Education
He attended Lisbon Central School and later Norwich Free Academy. At NFA, he was on the morning announcements at Norwich Free Academy, Cingranelli was known as “Josh from Lisbon.” And although there was no staff meteorologist for the NFA morning news, Cingranelli got a handle on his on-air experiences and fell in love. Growing up in a small New England town, where weather is often erratic, surprising, and sometimes boisterous, sparked his fascination with meteorology at a young age.
Cingranelli attended Lyndon State College in Vermont from where he graduated with a B.S. in atmospheric science in 2015. While in Vermont, Cingranelli interned at the weather department of a local TV news station, but also interned three times at the Connecticut station where he now works. When he graduated from college, he stayed in Vermont for a year to work at a local news station. But when he was offered a job at NBC Connecticut, he came back home in early 2017.

Josh began his television career at the New England Cable News. He also worked for the FOX and ABC affiliates in Burlington, Vermont as a weekend evening meteorologist.

Josh worked at NBC CT for six years until he left in March 2023 taking up a new position with the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Cingranelli said in his new role with Emergency Management and Homeland Security, he will be “working to ensure the safety and well-being of the people of Connecticut during times of emergency and disaster.”
Josh joined NBC CT as one of the midday meteorologists for the 11 a.m. news. He spent his days poring over weather maps and the latest weather models.
