Josh graduated from the State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelor of Science degree in atmospheric science and the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval. In 1998, he also received the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal.

Josh’s weather forecasting career began with a job at WNYT in Albany, New York, but his interest in the weather dates back to his childhood. Josh cites two hurricanes that hit his hometown on New York’s Long Island as influencing his future career. Hurricane Gloria hit the island directly in 1985, knocking out power for his family for ten days. In 1991, Hurricane Bob passed to the east of Long Island, bringing plenty of wind and rain on its way to landfall in New England.

Josh left WNYT in May 1998 to take on a new challenge forecasting weather in Tornado Alley at KGAN in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Josh’s time in eastern Iowa led him on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure for anyone who is as fascinated with the weather as Josh is. He encountered 14 tornadoes while working on a story about storm chasers, two of which were rated F3 or higher. “There was one time when the tornado was actually chasing us,” Josh recalls. Josh moved to the Bay Area in March 2001 and began watching hurricanes again as a member of Bay News 9’s Weather on the Nines team.

Bay News 9 is a St. Petersburg, Florida-based cable news television network. It is owned by Charter Communications and currently serves Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee, Polk, Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus counties in the Tampa Bay area. The station, which is only available to Spectrum customers, broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with the exception of some special programming, such as a weekly political program called Political Connections. Elliott Wiser, who was hired as General Manager by Time Warner Cable in May 1997, founded the station. Time Warner was constructing a similar news channel in Orlando at the time. Wiser went on to found Bay News 9 en Espaol, Tampa Bay on Demand, and Spectrum Sports.
