Patrick Welter Biography
Patrick Welter is an American two-time Emmy Award-winning anchor/reporter working at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina as a sports multimedia journalist. He joined WRAL in September 2021. Before that, he worked for Spectrum Sports 360 as a reporter from March 2018 to June 2022.
Welter has worked for WHTM – ABC27 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania as a sports anchor/reporter for nearly 7 years. He enjoys sports reporting because he never knows when he will witness something spectacular. He enjoys it when a player or team turns the sports world on its head. Patrick has always been a fan of stories, particularly superheroes and classic myths. Some people believe that incredible things do not happen in real life, but Patrick believes that they do and that news and sports are about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Patrick received his bachelor’s degree from Providence College in Rhode Island, where he was awarded Best Picture at the Providence College Film Festival. He wanted to be a movie director at the time, but his first job out of college was with the Tampa Tribune. He knew he wanted to return to Florida when he left to pursue a career in television news.
Patrick has covered several major stories, but one from 2018 stands out to him: Britton Daniel, a high school football player, has bone cancer. Britton’s family welcomed Patrick into their lives to follow his cancer battle. Britton went into remission months after the story aired, and Patrick says it’s a moment he’ll never forget. Patrick can usually be found with his wife, Amanda, and their dog when he is not on the air. Patrick’s favorite show is The Sopranos, but he is open to new movies and TV shows. He enjoys music and was in a band in college, but he still plays guitar and drums on occasion. Patrick adores the Central Florida community, which he considers to be an excellent place to work as a journalist.
