Karla Heath-Sands is an American journalist working for WALB as a co-anchor of WALB News 10’s Today in Georgia at 5 and 6 a.m. and anchors the noon, 5, and 6 p.m. newscast. In addition to that, she hosts “Dialogue” and the public affairs segment during the noon news. She joined the station in 1997 and has served the station for more than 2 decades.

Hailing from Brunswick, Heath began her broadcasting career in 1989 in Macon at WMAZ. There, she worked as a weathercaster and community service director. She has participated in the Miss America Pageant System, placing 4th as Miss Macon in 1982 and 2nd as Miss Brunswick-Golden Isles in 1985.
Heath also performed at Six Flags Over Georgia and was a semi-finalist for Star Search in Atlanta. In 1998, she went to Japan to sing alongside the Cherry Blossom Festival. She also made an appearance on Jones Gospel Hour.
Heath serves as a member of the Bob Cummings and Reflections Band, the Bethel AME Church, the Albany, Georgia Chapter of Links, and a Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In addition, she serves as a member of the Georgia Humanities Council. She previously served as a board member, Inc. of Albany and Albany Technical College Board. She won a GABBY Award for Best On-Air Personality from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters.
