Katie Vossler Biography
Katie Vossler is an American journalist who serves on the Good Morning East Texas team since April 2017 as a Meteorologist. She is no stranger to East Texas.
Katie Vossler Career
Katie grew up in Piney Woods, where she was born and raised. He received an associate’s degree in Physics from Troup High School and Tyler Junior College before going to the University of Oklahoma to pursue a B.S. in Meteorology at one of the country’s most prominent meteorological institutions.
Katie began an internship with Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto here at KLTV when she was unsure of the route she wanted her career to follow. She attributes her success to Mark, who was the first to push her to seek a career in television. Since then, Mark has been her mentor, and she is thrilled to be working with him once more.
Katie started her television career right here in East Texas, at KTRE in Lufkin, after graduating from college. She worked as a weekend meteorologist for two years before going to KOTV-TV in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she forecasted severe storms and chased tornadoes for several years. She’s seen at least a dozen tornadoes from the ground in a station storm chase vehicle, as well as from the air in a station helicopter.
Katie covered a lot of cold weather events while in Tulsa. Most notably, she won a regional EMMY award for her coverage of the ice storm in December 2007. Katie most recently worked at KSAT 12 in San Antonio, Texas’s heartland. Her favorite memory from that time was being on-air for live storm coverage while baseball-sized hail fell outside. Her car alone sustained nearly $7,000 in damage.
Katie has been named “Best weather forecaster” and “Best television personality” by local publications and has acquired the status of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (Certificate #113) from the American Meteorological Society. She has a big heart and is a vocal supporter of local animal charities.
She has volunteered with local SPCAs and Humane Societies, as well as the Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas, where she fell even more in love with the breed. “Adopt, don’t shop!” is her favorite mantra. When she’s not at work, you’ll probably find her rooting on her husband’s team on the sidelines. He is a coach and a teacher. Grace is the Vosslers’ only child, and they have two dogs, Ranger, a dachshund, and Primrose, a border collie/golden retriever cross.
