Kent Taylor is an American sports anchor working at WAVE 3 where he serves as the sports director and can be seen broadcasting sports at 11 pm. He joined WAVE 3 in January 2002, after previously working at WLKY where he served as a sports reporter and photographer.

Taylor works at WAVE 3 where he serves as the sports director. In the years 2008, 2009, 2012, and 2015, Taylor was named by the Associated Press as Kentucky TV Sportscaster of the Year. In 2015 and 2016, he won the Best Sports Play-by-Play and was voted by Louisville Magazine in 2013, as the Best Sports Reporter and in 2016 and 2017, as the Best TV Sportscaster. The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association named him 2014, Kentucky Sportscaster of the Year. Prior to joining WAVE in July 2000, he worked at WLKY for six years while serving as a sports reporter and photographer.

Since 1994, Kent has been covering sports in his hometown and he has covered each and every Kentucky Derby ever 1994, Western Kentucky’s 2002 NCAA Division 1-AA National Championship, UK’s trip to the 1998 Outback Bowl, UofL’s 2006 Orange Bowl win, UofL’s trip to the Final Four in 2005, the 2001 Brickyard 400,  UK’s 1996 National Championship, and UofL’s 2005 trip to the Gator Bowl. In March  2012, Taylor was present for the historic Final Four meeting in New Orleans between the Cards and Cats and was on the courtside as the UK won its 8th National Championship.

Furthermore, he covered UofL’s Sugar Bowl win over Florida, leaving Atlanta after the men’s team beat Michigan in the title game, and the Card’s NCAA Championship run. He was also present when the Cards and Rick Pitino visited President Barack Obama in the White House. In 2002, he covered the Winter Olympics for three weeks in Salt Lake City and traveled to Baltimore, Maryland where he covered Elmont, New York, and Preakness Stakes for the Belmont Stake inclusive of the 2015 Triple Crown of American Pharoah’s run. In addition, he fronted the coverage of the 2008 Ryder Cup at Valhalla Golf Club for WAVE and he produces and co-anchored Touchdown Friday Night show that was named in 2012 and 2017, the Best Prep Sports Show by the Associated Press.

In addition, Taylor he served as the play-by-play voice of the Arena 2 Louisville Fire in addition to serving as a sideline reporter on ESPNU for two UofL football spring games. He has been serving as host of, The Scotty Davenport Show since 2010, for the Bellarmine basketball head coach, Scotty Davenport. Kent also hosted, Inside the Cards which was aired weekly and produced by WAVE 3 News, basketball coach Rick Pitino, and UofL football coach Bobby Petrin. Furthermore, in 2014 and 2015, he served as the play-by-play voice for the Card’s two exhibition basketball games. He was called for two exhibition games, four UofL regular season games on ESPN3, and two regular season games in 2016. In addition, he is on the selection committee for the Louisville Catholic Sports Hall of Fame and the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame. Louisville is his native home and he attended St. Margaret Mary, St. Xavier High School, and Miami (Ohio).
