Lauren Phinney is an American journalist working for KUSI FOX 5 as an anchor for Good Morning San Diego since March 2018. She joined the station in March 2014 as an 11 p.m. anchor and reporter. Previously, she worked for WWSB ABC 7 in Sarasota as the lead anchor for 7 years.

She loves it when her career takes her on adventures. For instance, her stories led her to work on a ranch, skydive into a park to start a 9/11 tribute ceremony and experience ice diving.
Previously, she worked for WWSB ABC 7 as the lead anchor for 7 years. During her time in Sarasota, she provided broadcasts about medical breakthroughs, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, and the 2012 presidential election. For four years, she provided live reports from the Republican National Convention in Tampa and secured a one-on-one interview with President Obama. Also, she provided live reports as Nik Wallenda made history crossing Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon on a high wire. In 2012, she won the Rising Star award from the Florida Broadcasters Association.
Before working in Sarasota, she worked in Tallahassee, Florida at WTXL as an evening anchor. While there, she won two Associated Press awards for her reports. Also, she worked as a host of a weekly political beat and several specials including a one-hour show on the retirement of Bobby Bowden, Florida State University head football coach.
Prior to WTXL, she served KCFW in Montana as a reporter. She secured an anchoring role on KECI’s “Montana Today” due to her work at KCFW. A year later, she served as the runner-up for the E.B. Craney Award, “Broadcaster of the Year.” She has also worked in Washington, D.C. where she spent time broadcasting the D.C. sniper attacks.
Phinney has a passion for health and children’s issues. During her career, she has worked on many nonprofit boards. Additionally, she works as a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and Brides Against Breast Cancer.
