Lauren Whitney Biography
Lauren Whitney is an American Meteorologist working for CBS4 News/KCNC-TV in Denver, Colorado where she serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist. She has been working with the station since the month of October 2011.
Lauren Whitney Education
The Minnesota native is a proud graduate of Arizona State University- Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. There, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Broadcast Journalism and minored in Political Science. She is also a proud graduate of Mississippi State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geosciences and a concentration in Broadcast and Operational Meteorology.

She states that she loves the challenge of tracking Colorado’s unique weather patterns and rapidly changing conditions. Lauren joined the CBS4 News team working for the CBS4 This Morning News team before later moving to the evening newscasts in the year 2016. Prior to moving to Denver, she was the morning weather anchor in Grand Junction at KKCO-TV(NBC). She is an avid sports fan and has a unique first job with the Arizona Diamondbacks as the “Game Host,” roving through the stands and announcing contests on the Jumbotron at Chase Field in Phoenix. She is now a diehard Rockies supporter and has a lot of purple in her wardrobe.
Her covering on two Super Bowls for CBS has made her one of Lauren’s career highlights. The weather was a story for the 2014 Broncos vs. Seahawks “cold weather” Super Bowl with a major snowstorm narrowly missing the game in East Rutherford, New Jersey, stranding thousands of fans the next day. Later on, after about two years in San Francisco, it was perfect weather when the Broncos beat the Panthers in Super Bowl 50. She states that she can describe being on the CBS4 Super Bowl broadcast teams as an Experience of a lifetime.
Being a part of the community she lives in is very important to Lauren. She is a volunteer with the Junior League of Denver whose focus is to improve literacy rates in the Denver metro area and enjoys emceeing events for nonprofit organizations, such as the Denver Health Foundation and others. When she’s not forecasting the weather, Lauren can be found on family outings with her husband and daughter, reading, or planning some sort of over-the-top themed party.
She states that being part of the community she lives in is very important to Lauren. Her favorite noise is the quiet nows and the sound of rain on her windows. She also loves all of her loved ones laughing together. Lauren states that one word that best describes CBS4 News is fantastic. Her most memorable interview is meatloaf where she asked him one question and he talked for 10 minutes.
She states that is eating a whole bag of Sour Patch Kids is considered a talent then it is her hidden talent and she is at her professional level. Whitney states that her favorite quote is “All the colors I am inside have not been invented yet which was said by Shel Silverstein. Her favorite food is Mac and Cheese and states that there aren’t many things better than homemade mac and cheese. She also loves her grandma’s cookies and she has the recipe memorized.
She states that her favorite musician changes with mood, the weather, and the season. An interesting fact about her is that she is 5 feet 11 inches. Whitney states that when meeting her for the first time, people are often surprised that she is a tall person.
Away from work, she is pretty crafty and is on a first-name basis with the staff at her favorite craft store. She loves getting lost in a good book and making friends try recipes she is testing. She also loves napping on cloudy days and going to the movies. Lauren states that her household chore is folding laundry. Whitney states that she frequently listens to country music and listens to other people’s playlists to discover new tunes.
She states that what keeps her in Colorado is the Colorado sunrises and the wide array of local beers. If she was to carry a role in a movie, she would play Meryl Streep or Hugh Jackman. She states that her role model is overnight nurses as anytime she gets tired she thinks of what the nurses do every night and states it is pretty incredible. Her favorite sports teams are the Broncos, and all Colorado teams, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona State Sun Devils.
