Lee Cowan Biography
Lee Cowan is an American Emmy award-winning correspondent and anchor working for CBS News in Los Angeles. He serves as a substitute anchor for CBS Sunday Morning and National Correspondent for the CBS Evening News.

After graduating from high school and earning his High School Diploma, he had to further his education. He joined the University of Washington to pursue his career course. After completing his studies there, he obtained his degree in communications and speech communications in 1988.

During his tenure at CBS News, he has conducted interviews with a variety of news and entertainment personalities including tennis legend Billie Jean King, comedy great Carol Burnett, pop star Bruno Mars, and First Lady Michelle Obama. Cowan has also covered issues ranging from childhood hunger, the water crisis in the Navajo Nation, and the nation’s public defender system.
In addition to that, he covered the 2006 tsunami in Indonesia, the 2006 conflict in Beirut, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He has spent over two decades of his nearly 30-year career at CBS News spread over two periods.
Working as a national correspondent at NBC News, he reported for the “NBC Nightly News,” “Today” and MSNBC. During his working time there, he was assigned to cover the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, the crisis in Libya, the tsunami in Japan in 2011, and also the campaign and election of President Barack Obama.
Prior to that, he worked as a correspondent for CBS Newspath, CBS News’ 24-hour news service. He as well served as a researcher for CBS News’ “CBS News Nightwatch” and then for the “CBS Evening News” in Washington, D.C. His reporting career began in Cincinnati working for WLWT-TV. While there, he served the station as a reporter and anchor for local news.
Before working there, he served at WWMT-TV, in Kalamazoo, Michigan as an anchor and reporter. He also worked at KCOY-TV in Santa Maria, Calif as a weekend anchor. Prior to that, he served at KIEM-TV Eureka, Calif, NBC affiliate. During his working time there, he worked as a news director and anchor.
