Leslie Mayes Biography
Leslie Mayes is an American journalist who serves as an anchor and nightline reporter at NBC Connecticut (WVIT) in New Britain, Connecticut, United States. She serves as a weekday fill-in anchor for the 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm newscasts.
She is the founder and host of “Connecticut in Color”. This is a program dedicated to showcasing the stories and discussions on the issues facing Nutmeg State’s communities of color.

Mayes began her career behind the camera serving as a news assistant and photographer for NY1 News in New York City in January 2008. During her tenure there, she traveled across the country on the campaign trail. She followed through the Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaigns. Mayes also followed the New York State Senate coup, and also the Eliot Spitzer resignation.
In July 2011, Mayes joined Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable) as the Washington Bureau producer. There, she covered Capitol Hill, the White House, and Washington politics for the Time Warner Cable news channels. She also shot, wrote, and edited stories that aired on NY1 News, YNN, and News 14 Carolina.
In February 2013, she joined News 14 Carolina in Charlotte, NC as a reporter and multimedia journalist. She covered news in the Charlotte metro region for TWC News’ morning newscast while there.
Mayes joined NBCUniversal Media, LLC in 2015 as an anchor and reporter at NBC Owned station in West Hartford, CT (WVIT). She served as a morning live reporter from February 2015 to June 2017. She then worked as a nightside live reporter until June 2020. Since March 2020, she has served as a weekday fill-in anchor for the 4 & 5:30 newscasts.
