Lex Gray Biography

Lex Gray is an American anchor and reporter who is best known for her time at WAVY/Fox 43 where she served as a special assignment reporter and the morning and midday anchor. She joined the WAVY team in January 2014 as a weekend anchor and left the station in 2022.

Lex Gray Career

Gray begins her day by speaking with residents of Hampton Roads and northeast North Carolina. Lex covered the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea 2018. She was on WAVY and five other Nexstar Media Group affiliates throughout the country every day, and she also contributed to two half-hour specials that aired during the Games. Lex began her broadcasting career in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, at an NBC station. She began her career as a multimedia journalist, meaning she shot, wrote, and edited all of her own stories. Lex went on to become the station’s primary anchor.

Covering the news in Wisconsin’s Northwoods provided Lex with several unique opportunities, including reporting on the state’s wolf population from a tiny plane equipped with radio collars that track wolf packs. She hauled camera equipment deep into the woods to follow hunters on the state’s first wolf hunt, learned to hunt wild turkey, was named “Top Gun” in Rhinelander’s Citizen’s Police Academy, went scuba diving under a frozen lake’s ice shelf, and rode on top of one in an airboat. Lex also ran 60 miles in 38 hours to raise money for local charities, won a media canoe race two years in a row, and served as a roast judge at “Beef-a-Rama.”

Lex is most proud of revealing the lack of accessible parking at a large hospital. Her report compelled the clinic to upgrade its parking lot for patients with mobility issues. She also provided thorough coverage of the state’s school financing and assisted viewers in understanding new educational standards. In addition, she taught English in South Korea before beginning her broadcasting career, where she also volunteered at a domestic abuse shelter and ascended the country’s three highest peaks. Lex also studied in Australia and graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
