She also helped KTSU2News to create a student-run radio station and social media news outlet. Turner has covered countless stories centering around the historic Fourth Ward area in Houston, before joining KCEN as her first digital producer job.
While in Texas Southern, Turner was able to build connections with leaders in the community and political figures. This helped her to even cover stories surrounding George Floyd, a high-profile case in America dealing with race. Away from the newsroom Maiya enjoys collecting vinyl, traveling, arts, and finding adventure and is happy to continue her journalism career in Central Texas with the KCEN family.
