Mark Freund Biography
Mark Freund is an American anchor/reporter working for 13 News as a weekend sports reporter. He joined the 13 News sports team in January 2019, after previously working at KTIV-TV.
Rochester, Minnesota is Mark’s native home and he attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he graduated in 2013, with a degree in broadcast and electronic communication. While he was at Marquette University, Mark worked at the campus television station, MUTV as an assistant sports director and sports director during his junior and senior years.
In addition, he interned at WDJT in Milwaukee and at KTTC-TV in Rochester, Minnesota. Prior to joining 13 News, Mark worked at KTIV-TV, the NBC affiliate in Sioux City, Iowa for 5 years. He began his news career at KTIV before he became the weekend sports anchor a position he held for over 4 years.
While he was in Sioux City, he covered sports, an NCAA Division II, four NAIA colleges, Division-I South Dakota, and Division III school. In addition, he also spent most of his time crisscrossing the back roads and highways of southeast South Dakota and northwest Iowa, northeast Nebraska while covering many high school games in the Siouxland area.
Furthermore, he also covered Super Bowl LII in his home state of Minnesota. Over the years Freund has won awards from Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association and the Iowa Broadcast News Association. He has also been on teams that have won Upper Midwest Emmys.
Furthermore, he is an avid Twins fan and he enjoys Gopher basketball games. During his downtime, he loves disc golf, running, brewery browsing, watching wrestling, cheering on the Chicago Bears, and spending ample time with his family and friends.
