Mary Nickles Biography

Mary Nickles is an American anchor and reporter working at KUTV, where she serves as an anchor of 2NEWS This Morning from 4:25 to 7:00 a.m. and at noon on weekdays. She also served as the 7 am to 9 am anchor on KJZZ. She joined the KUTV team as a weekend anchor and reporter in 1991 and has served the station for over 3 decades.

She also writes two health blogs and does in-depth reporting for KUTV. In 2012, she won an Emmy award for Best News Series. The series began with her getting a mammogram that encouraging more women to get screened. The mammogram revealed that she had an invasive, malignant tumor. The following stories followed her surgery, chemo treatments, wig shopping, radiation, and long recovery.

Before she relocated to Utah, she worked in Yakima, Washington where she served as an anchor, reporter, producer, and editor. Furthermore, she is very active in the community and serves as a mentor for young people, and is an advocate for health. She also serves as the Chair of the Advisory Board for Head Start in addition to being a board member of the Intermountain Catholic Newspaper and the Police Athletic League.

Nickles also donates home-cooked meals and her time to assist other charities which include; the Heart Walk, Guadalupe Schools, The Multiple Sclerosis Society, The Ronald McDonald House, and Life After Breast Cancer. For years, she was a participant in the Utah Summer Games, and in 2003, she was inducted into the Hall of Honor and plays for the Utah Predators as a professional volleyball.
