Sterling Poulson Biography

Sterling Poulson is an American Meteorologist working with KUTV 2 News where he serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist anchoring the weather at 5, 6, and 10 PM. He is now a familiar face to many 2News viewers and joined the station’s Weather Team as an anchor, weather producer, and meteorologist in December 1989.

Poulson works with KUTV 2 News where he serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist. Poulson happens to be a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist(CBM) with the American Meteorological Society. Asides from this, he served a three-year term as a member of the Board of Broadcast Meteorologists from the year 1997 to 2000. He was also a chairman of the AMS Broadcaster’s Conference in San Francisco in June 2000.

Poulson graduated with a degree in Meteorology and gained his weather experience during his ten years with the United States Air Force. At that time, he was assigned to the National Emergency Command Aircraft, 1st Airborne Command Control Squadron in direct support of “Air Force One” at Andrews AFB, Maryland. Asides from that, he was a Severe Storms Forecaster and was assigned to the Air Force Global Weather Center, and also provided aviation forecasts in support of the Airforce and Department of Defense missions worldwide.

Sterling also served a thirteen-month tour in Vietnam between 1970 and 1971. He is a member of the Utah Air National Guard where he was assigned to the State Headquarters Public Affairs staff. Poulson is the “Voice of the Utah National Guard.” His television career began in the year 1985 when he joined KSL television in Salt Lake City as a weather producer and meteorologist.

Away from work, he is usually involved as a Music Director and Founder of The Choral Arts Society of Utah where he conducts as many as six concerts annually with the 120-voice choir. Asides from that, he is a Music Director of the Days of ’47 Pops Concert and Executive Vice President of the Das of ’47 Inc.

He, additionally, serves on the board of the Clark Planetarium and also chairs the board of the  West Valley Symphony of Utah. During his free time, he is very active in the community and speaks to organizations and schools about the television industry, music, and weather.
