Matt Laubhan is an American Emmy award-winning meteorologist working as the chief meteorologist for Mississippi LIVE Weather since July 2025. Previously, he worked for WTVA (9 News) in Tupelo, Mississippi, as the chief meteorologist for 14 years.
Matt Laubhan Education
Laubhan joined the University of Kansas in 2000 after finishing his high school education. In 2004, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science.

Laubhan works as the chief meteorologist for Mississippi LIVE Weather, an independent weather media company. He and meteorologist Gabe Mahner launched the media company in July 2025. Also, he is North Mississippi’s only Certified Broadcast Meteorologist,™a distinction the American Meteorological Society gives to broadcast meteorologists who meet established criteria for scientific competence and effective communication skills in their weather presentations.
Laubhan and his team have received many awards and honors, including being formally recognized by the Mississippi State Senate for their life-saving severe weather broadcast, 10 Emmy® Awards, and 21 Emmy® nominations for their weather broadcast.
Laubhan previously worked for WTVA (9 News) in Tupelo, Mississippi, as the chief meteorologist for 14 years. He also worked for KLBK-TV in Lubbock, Texas, as the chief meteorologist for nearly 4 years before moving to Tupelo in 2011. After graduating from college, he worked as a morning meteorologist for KAMC 28 News in Lubbock, Texas, for 3 years.
