Michael attended the prestigious Yeager Scholarship at Marshall University (Go Herd!) and graduated Summa Cum Laude, earning a B.J. degree. In addition, Michael studied at England’s Oxford University and Madrid’s Antonio de Nebrija University in Spain.

Wooten serves as an anchor and managing editor at WGRZ 2 On Your Side in Buffalo, NY, specializing in in-depth investigative reporting. He started his journalism career at WSAZ-TV an NBC affiliate where he served as a producer and later on served as a reporter and weekend anchor. While at the station, he enclosed his most memorable story which was interviewing then-Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the same day. He also interviewed a ton of national politicians during the primary and general election campaigns in 2018.
Wooten left the station in February 2009 and joined WGRZ-TV where he enclosed the 2009 crash of Continental Flight 3407. Since he started his journalism career, he has managed to enclose different stories that have hit the headlines all across the states and beyond. Some of them include the Aurora, Colorado movie theater massacre in July 2012 and the Denver area for flooding in 2013. In addition to this, he also reported Live from Chardon, Ohio after the school shooting and the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
Wooten has also managed to win a ton of awards including an Emmy Award and was also nominated for a number of other Emmy awards. He is also a recipient of multiple Associated Press awards, two of them being for Best Enterprise Reporting and one for Best Continuing Encasement. Whenever he is not working, he enjoys spending his free time with his family and friends. He also enjoys traveling and trying out new restaurants.
