Mike Benner Biography
Mike Benner is an American reporter working at KGW in Portland, Oregon, where he specializes in general assignment reporting. Benner joined the station in April 2008.
As a general assignment reporter at KGW, Benner has been nominated for two Emmys. He has covered many big stories including reporting on the disappearance of Kyron Horman, a story that garnered national attention. In 2011, Benner was sent to Scottsdale, Arizona to cover the Oregon Ducks in the National Championship game, but he did not get to cover much of the game or the festivities.
Prior to moving to the Pacific Northwest, Benner served as a general assignment reporter at WGBA-TV (NBC) in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Before that, he was an anchor and reporter at WJFW-TV (NBC) in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. He attended Indiana University where he graduated in 2004 with a journalism degree.
While in college, he dabbled not only in television but also in radio. He was both the sports director and news director at the campus radio station, WIUS. One of his fondest memories is calling an NCAA tournament game between Alabama and Indiana on the famous parquet floor in Boston.
