Mike Galanos Biography
Mike Galanos is an American news anchor for HLN, who appears as part of the team on Morning Express with Robin Meade. He is based in CNN’s world headquarters in Atlanta since joining the network in May 2002. Before HLN, Galanos covered sports for CNN and CNNSI.
Mike Galanos Career
Galanos started out as a cameraman, teleprompter operator, and video journalist at CNN Headline News for news anchors Bobbie Battista and Don Harrison in the late 1980s. From 1991 to 1994, Galanos was the local sports anchor on KTVN-TV in Reno, Nevada with Ric Renner as the weekend anchor, and was well known for his excellent knowledge of sports in northern Nevada.
After leaving Reno, Galanos moved up the ranks to CNN Sports Illustrated as an anchor but now he is at CNN Headline News as a general assignment news anchor for the network. In 1997, he hosted CNN’s seasonal programs, Baseball 97 and College Football Preview. Additionally, Galanos reported for the network on its Super Bowl, Daytona 500, MLB World Series, and Men’s NCAA Final Four coverage.
Galanos previously co-anchored Prime News with Erica Hill until Hill was named the sole anchor. After Hill was reassigned to CNN’s program Anderson Cooper 360 in early 2008, Galanos returned to the program as her replacement. When it comes to his education, he graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communication arts from San Francisco State University.
Mike Galanos HLN
Prior to HLN, Galanos hosted Prime News on HLN. The show is designed to present the featured stories of the day including the insight and input from viewers (hence HLN’s slogan: “News and Views”). Prime News was one of the first shows to shed light on the practice of ‘sexting’. Galanos used this forum to help people understand the potentially long-lasting legal, moral, and emotional impact “sexting” can have on teenagers.
Galanos’ critics feel he often doesn’t follow journalistic independence while presenting the news during the show, as he often expresses his opinion on the topics and people’s views. He usually espouses very traditional values, especially in regard to protecting children.
As of August 16, 2010, Mike stopped hosting “Prime News” (his last air date was August 13, 2010). This was announced via the Prime News Facebook account by Mr. Galanos himself. Mike can still be seen on HLN from 12-4 pm. Mr. Galanos’ position on Prime News has been taken over by former Prosecutor and host of TruTV’s In Session, Vinnie Politan.
