Monica Cortez is an American Meteorologist working with KTSM 9 News in El Paso where she serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist since December 2018. She is a proud graduate of Mississippi State where he obtained a Meteorology seal.

Cortez works with KTSM 9 News where he serves the station as a Chief Meteorologist. She is a proud native of Sun City where he was born and raised. Monica states that she was raised desiring nothing more than to be part of the journalism field. She has written stories that involve the community and shared her passion for meteorology with the rest of the community.

Asides from this, she has found her niche in the KTSM 9 Family. She is a proud graduate of El Dorado High School and pursued her dreams of being a journalist a few miles away from home, New Mexico State University.  In college, she studied broadcasting and completed internships with television stations in El Paso.

At NMSU, she obtained a Bachelor of Liberal Arts. She states that the opportunity to write feature stories about the community while keeping an eye on El Paso’s weather came true for Cortez. She created two brands, Weather Watchers and Weather Warriors which allow the community to be part of the Weather Authority team.

Asides from creating new brands for the station, she put together the city’s first-ever Weather Fest where students competed to win the Ultimate Warrior Award. She also earned her city’s very first Weather Ambassador Award. Asides from this, she states that for the last three years, she has won the city’s Best of the Best Award.
