In 2013, Yadon discovered that his prostate-specific antigen (PSA) had increased after going to his routine annual physical, confirming that he had prostate cancer. Fortunately, he had numerous treatment options because it was only at Stage 1.

Yadon researched treatment options online for 4 days, including focused ultrasound, which his family physician had first mentioned to him. His urologist, Dr. John Jurige, confirmed that he was eligible for high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) because of his early diagnosis, general health, and that his prostate was smaller than average.

Since SonaCare’s HIFU system was not yet approved in the United States, Yadon travelled to Cancun, Mexico, for his procedure, which cost $25,000 plus travel expenses at the time. His outpatient HIFU procedure took about three hours. He checked out of the hospital within a couple of hours following his surgery, wearing a urine bag.

Following the treatment, Yadon had chills because of the heat generated in the body during the thermal ablation process. Also, he experienced very mild muscular pain in his abdomen at first. Aside from this, he felt normal and needed no pain medicine.

While in the US, Yadon wore a catheter and a urine bag for about a week. Despite having the urine bag, he was able to go on 3 to 4-mile walks. He began jogging in two weeks and having intercourse in three weeks. After recuperating, his urinary function and sex life returned to normal, and he annually sees Dr. Jurige to monitor his PSA levels, which remain undetectable.
