In 2019, she also received; the Northwood University Distinguished Woman Award, Neal Shine Award for Excellence in Media Commitment to Philanthropy, the Dr. Gerald K. Smith Humanitarian Award from Black Family Development, Inc, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles – Standing Ovation Award, and Inductee into the Catch Charity Hall of Fame for Extraordinary Charitable Contributions.
Furthermore, she has also been honored and recognized 17 times for leadership and distinguished service, 8 times for her work related to empowering youth and mentoring, and 10 times for professional media-related awards. In addition, she has earned scores of awards and many accolades including honors from; Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, General Motors, City of Detroit (Spirit of Detroit Award), NAACP (Great Expectation Award), News/Talk WJR 760am, Michigan Women’s Foundation, NAWBO, Ford Motor Company, Art Van Award of Hope.
Also, 7 consecutive years of “Best News Anchor Awards” from Hour Detroit Magazine from the year 2014 to 2020, and the Best News Anchor Awards from the Michigan Chronicle from 2016 to 2018. Walker is a Board Trustee at Harper/Hutzel and Detroit Receiving Hospitals in addition to being an active member of the Renaissance Chapter of the Links Inc. She is the founder and president of the Rhonda Walker Foundation which is currently in its 18th year as of 2022.
The foundation has led to 100% high school graduation and college enrollment rates among the inner-city teen girls who complete the program, together with a 95% college graduation rate. Furthermore, she assisted in launching a comprehensive college prep initiative that provides year-round tutoring in all subjects and ACT/SAT test prep courses starting in the 8th through 12th grade. During her free time, she enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, playing golf, traveling with her husband Jason, dining out, shopping, and volunteering.
