Rob Mayeda Biography
Rob Mayeda is an American Meteorologist/Producer working for NBC Bay Area in San Francisco Bay Area where he serves the station as a Weekend Forecaster and Contributes to weekday weather coverage. He has been working with the station since December 2003.

He is an active member of the American Meteorological Society and was privileged to earn the AMS Television Seal of Approval after completing a Master of Science Degree in Geoscience(Meteorology/Geology/Hydrology) from Mississippi State University. This also helped him be among the Top 100 outstanding alumni in 2016.

Mayeda works with NBC Bay Area News where he serves the station as a Weekend Weather Forecaster and Weekday Weather Anchor. Aside from this, he produces and reports on weather-related news specials, including the award-winning “On Thin Ice” report on climate change affecting Alaska’s glaciers. He was recognized by the American Meteorological Society for the coverage of “On Thin Ice” with its “Excellence in Scientific Reporting” award for “Highlighting the importance of climate change’s relevance to future impacts to the San Francisco Bay Area.”
He kick-started his broadcast news career as an ABC News production associate for “20/20” and “Primetime Live.” Later on, he went on to join the local news assignment desk at KNBC in Burbank where he was working on news special projects also seen on CNBC. Prior to joining NBC Bay Area News, he was working for KIRO(CBS) in Seattle and KCRA(NBC) in Sacramento. There, he had spent about three years working as a morning and weekend weather anchor. Asides from this, he was also a weather anchor and reporter for KSBY in San Luis Obispo and KESQ in Palm Desert/Palm Springs.
Asides from working with NBC Bay Area, he works as a guest lecturer for San Jose State Meteorology where he guides the department’s broadcast meteorology minor program. He is also assisting Cal State East Bay in Hayward with meteorology-related courses.
He loves serving the community and is a proud member of the Lupus Foundation of Northern California where he was working as a board member, serves as an emcee for the 5K Walk/Run, and has traveled to Washington D.C. with the Lupus Research Institute to raise lupus awareness at congressional meetings. Mayeda was recently honored in the year 2015 with the LFNC’s “Top Media Ally” award at the annual Purple Ribbon Gala and spends time assisting LupusLA at events during the year.
