After graduating college, he kickstarted his career at WBOY-TV in Clarksburg, West Virginia as a morning and noon news anchor. He was later promoted to primary evening news co-anchor.

His grandfather worked as a founder and editor of the first weekly suburban newspaper and publishing company in Central, Ohio.
