Robert Costa is an American Correspondent and contributor working for CBS News in Washington D.C. He serves as a Chief Election & Campaign Correspondent covering national politics and American democracy.

After graduating from  Pennsbury high school and earning his high School Diploma in 2004, he had to further his education. He joined the University of Notre Dame and in 2008 he obtained his bachelor’s degree in American studies. He also joined the University of Cambridge to pursue his career course. After completing his studies there, he earned his master’s degree in politics in 2009. During the 2022-2023 academic year, he is serving at the University of Virginia’s Center as a non-resident scholar for Politics where his work is focused on American democracy and journalism. From 2014 to 2017, he was on the board of trustees at Notre Dame.

While he was at Notre Dame, he interned in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos, and PBS’ Charlie Rose. In addition to that, he produced and hosted an interview program for ND-TV called Office Hours on campus. During his time at Cambridge, he was an active member of the Cambridge Union debating society and focused his research on United Kingdom–United States and Winston Churchill relations. His adviser was Andrew Gamble, a British academic and author.

In addition to that, he is a regular contributor to the CBS News Streaming programs such as “Red & Blue” and “Sunday Morning,” “CBS Mornings,”  “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan,” and “CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell.” Furthermore, he has interviewed high-profile leaders ranging from Vice President Kamala Harris to Congresswoman Liz Cheney.

Prior to joining the CBS News team, reporting legend Bob Woodward co-wrote “Peril.” It was published by Simon & Schuster (a division of Paramount) in September 2021. It was cited in congressional subpoenas issued by the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. The book documented the tumultuous transition between the Trump presidency and the Biden presidency and was a No. 1 New York Times bestseller.
