Ross Janssen Biography

Ross Janssen is an American meteorologist working at KWCH 12 where he serves as the chief meteorologist a position he took up in May 2004. He joined KWCH 12 in May 2004, as a meteorologist. 

Kansas is his native home and he was brought up in a family farm ranch just outside of Geneseo. He began attending storm spotter training classes together with his father while he was in middle school. While he was in high school, he interned at KWCH where he learned more about the weather and forecasting, and he had firsthand experience in broadcasting. He installed a weather station in his high school with the assistance of a charitable foundation in Ellsworth thus other students had a chance to watch weather change throughout the day.

In addition, he attended the University of Kansas where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science. Just at 19 years, he began his career at Channel 6 in Lawrence where he worked for two years as a morning meteorologist and as a Chief meteorologist. Janssen also worked as a fill-in meteorologist at WIBW in Topeka before he later relocated to Wichita in 2004, where he joined KWCH. Furthermore, in 2004, they earned the National Weather Association Seal of Approval. In 2006, the American Meteorological Society honored him with the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation.
