Sam Spangler Biography
Sam Spangler is an American journalist working for KHON 2 News as a weekend anchor and field reporter since rejoining the station in July 2019. This serves as his second stint with the station as he previously worked as the weekend sports anchor and reporter for the news team in Honolulu from 2012 to 2018. Since 2012, he has served Spectrum Sports in Honolulu, Hawaii as a color commentator host.

Spangler joined the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2006 when he finished his high school education at Valley High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 2012, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Health and Fitness.
While in college, he took part as a three-year letter winner on the baseball team and was picked in the Major League Baseball draft in 2009 (Pittsburg Pirates) and 2010 (Minnesota Twins). He was also the 2010 Western Athletic Conference champion and focused on kinesiology and rehabilitation science.

Spangler started his career as a pitcher for the Minnesota Twins in Fort Myers, Florida Area from June 2010 to November 2011. There he was a professional pitcher for the Twins organization after being picked in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft.

Since 2012, he has served Spectrum Sports in Honolulu, Hawaii as a color commentator host. Also, he gives color commentary and pregame/postgame show host for the University of Hawai’i athletics television broadcasts. He joined Spectrum OC16 in Honolulu, Hawaii as a color commentator from May 2015 to May 2015. He served the role for one month giving color commentary for high school baseball television broadcasts on OC16.

Spangler also had the duties of web content writing and social media production, as well as the co-producer and on-air talent on Cover2: Hawai’i high school football weekly.
