Seth Doane is an American Emmy Award-winning correspondent and anchor working for CBS News in Rome. He joined the station as a correspondent.

After graduating from high school and earning his Diploma in General education, he had to further his education. He joined the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California (USC) to pursue his career course. After finishing his studies there, he graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism.

Throughout his journalism career, while based in Italy since 2016, he has covered multiple stories including terrorist attacks and breaking news across Europe. He has reported on issues ranging from migration to climate change. In addition to that, he has traveled with Pope Francis as part of his coverage of the Vatican. He reported extensively from Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank, as the U.S. moved its embassy to Jerusalem. Doane was among the first journalists to travel into the war-torn suburb of Douma as Bashar al-Assad’s forces took control. Furthermore, he reported live from Damascus as U.S.-led coalition airstrikes hit targets in Syria and covered conflicts in the Middle East.
Prior to joining the CBS News team, he worked as a New Delhi, India-based correspondent for CNN International. His on-camera career started at Channel One News in Los Angeles and it was streamed to nearly eight million students in schools across the United States. He began his journalism career with the Special Projects and Investigations unit for Fox 5 (WNYW-TV) in New York. During his time there, he helped produce about school security at the age of 22 and was nominated for a local Emmy Award in the investigative category.

Prior to moving to Rome, he worked as CBS News’ Asia correspondent for three years, based in Beijing, China. While there, he covered stories across the region traveling into closed-off North Korea twice, reporting from across China on issues of politics, pollution, human rights, and economics, as well as making an intrepid journey into the South China Sea to glimpse China’s island-building efforts. During his working time in Japan, he suited up and went inside reactor four at the nuclear power plant in Fukushima. He covered the continuing fallout of the earthquake and tsunami.
Doane has filed stories from the front lines of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and has traveled to around 70 countries over the course of his career. He has brought viewers to disaster zones including the typhoon that devastated the Philippines, the earthquake that rattled Haiti, and the tsunami in the Indian Ocean. In addition to that, he has reported from Greenland’s glaciers and Chile’s Atacama Desert where 33 miners were trapped. He reported from the epicenter of the COVID-19 crisis and early on contracted COVID-19 in the spring of 2020.

While there, he traveled extensively across the United States focusing on “The Other America,” “CBS Evening News.” The series chronicled the downturn of the U.S. economy ahead of the Great Recession. Before he was much dedicated to being a correspondent for “CBS Sunday Morning,” he regularly contributed to the broadcast, pianos made from the wood of Italy’s stunning Val di Fiemme forest, gondolas in Venice, and filing stories about the art of Bonsai in Japan.
