Steve Caparotta is an American Meteorologist working for WAFB-TV as a weekday meteorologist at 5 p.m. Before joining the station in June 2003, he worked as a meteorologist at WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina.

Caparotta completed high school at Brother Martin High School in New Orleans. He then enrolled at South Alabama University in 1994 where he graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. After that, Steve furthered his studies at Louisiana State University in 2004 where he attained a Master of Science in Climatology and Geography in 2008. He also holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Geography and Climatology from Louisiana State University.

He started his career at KPLC-TV in Lake Charles, Louisiana where he served as a meteorologist. Caparotta served the station for two years and one month from January 1999 to January 2001. Throughout his career, Steve has covered multiple weather events such as ice storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods. During his time reporting on storms in 2004, he went through the eyewalls of Hurricane Ivan near Gulf Shores.
For his coverage of the “NOPD Looting” story, he was honored with an AP award. After that, Caparotta was nominated by the Associated Press in 2009 for the Best Weathercast in Louisiana. His love for weather emerged at a young age when he used to track hurricanes and tropical storms on paper tracking maps. Aside from working as a meteorologist, Steve is also a member of the American Meteorological Society.
