Susan Spencer is an American Emmy Award-winning correspondent and anchor working for CBS News. She joined the network in 1977 as a reporter in its Washington bureau.

After graduating from high school and earning her Diploma in General Education, she had to further her education. She joined Michigan State University to pursue her course. In 1968, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. She also attended Columbia University. After completing her studies there, she obtained a master’s degree in Journalism in 1969.

Spencer serves as a correspondent for “48 Hours.” Her reports range from coverage of the drug war in Colombia to segments on painful custody battles. She has vast experience in reporting national and international news. Prior to joining “48 Hours,” she worked for the “Eye on America” segments on the “CBS Evening News” as a CBS News White House correspondent and the primary correspondent.

During her tenure at CBS News, she covered former President Bill Clinton’s first inauguration, President George Herbert Walker Bush’s unsuccessful 1992 re-election campaign, and the 1988 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. Prior to that, she served as a national correspondent for CBS News. During the coverage of the Persian Gulf War, she played a major role in CBS News reporting from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Her career also helped to report on the death of Japan’s Emperor Hirohito and on the student uprising in Tiananmen Square both in 1989. In 1986, she was named CBS News medical correspondent. From 1988 to 1989, she served as the anchor of the Sunday edition of the “CBS Evening News.” She also worked as a substitute anchor for the Sunday edition of the “CBS Evening News” from 1987 to 1989. She joined CBS News, as a reporter in its Washington bureau, and in 1978, she was named a correspondent.

Prior to joining the CBS News team, she worked for WCCO-TV, the CBS-owned station in Minneapolis. While there, she held several positions including co-anchor and reporter from 1972 to 1977. From there, she headed to New York where she worked for WCBS-TV, the CBS-owned station from 1971 to 1972 as a researcher. In addition to that, she worked for the public affairs broadcast at WKPC-TV Louisville, Kentucky as a writer and producer.
